‘Stand With Ukrainian Writers Fund’ Launched

Sharjah World Book Capital (SWBC) and Poland’s Wroclaw Literature House, organising entity of UNESCO’s Wroclaw City of Literature undertaking, introduced the launch of ‘Stand with Ukrainian Writers Fund’ to offer monetary assist to writers, translators, and people working within the publishing sector who misplaced their jobs in Ukraine in response to the present disaster.

The Wroclaw Literature House despatched an invite to cities of literature and world guide capitals and obtained immediate response and assist from SWBC which helped in establishing a fund to offer monetary grants to Ukrainian writers, translators, and publishers who misplaced their livelihoods because of the conflict, and to assist them get scholarships or rights to their literary works.

Sheikha Bodour bint Sultan Al Qasimi, President of the International Publishers Association (IPA) and head of the Advisory Committee of Sharjah World Book Capital, that steered Sharjah’s tenure because the UNESCO World Book Capital 2019, expressed her happiness with the institution of the fund, stressing the need of the written phrase in overcoming the challenges of adverse and harsh circumstances and the necessity for the ‘guide’ to construct bridges of communication and dialogue, cut back variations and obtain safety. She underlined her agency perception that the world of literature can open the gates of peace, noting that the humanitarian obligation calls on the world to exert joint efforts to assist this noble initiative.

Incidentally, Director of Wroclaw Literature House Erik Grin says, “We urge the worldwide literary group to assist the fund as all donations might be used to assist writers, illustrators, and translators immediately, whereas the fund will finance translation samples of Ukrainian literature into different languages.”

Wroclaw Literature House will work collectively carefully with a variety of Polish establishments and organizations together with the Literary Union and the Polish Literary Translators Association, along with UNESCO Cities of Literature and the Ukrainian Book Institute to establish the wants of Ukrainian writers.
