Level Gauges, Their Applications and Types

As suggested from the name, a level gauge or sensor is a device which is used for the measuring of level of liquids or solids, or at times, for detecting the interface between liquids and solids. A liquid level indicator device is used for measuring the fluid level of various liquids within a container. Some of these indicators can detect the level in an open as well. There are a number of different technologies currently in use for the making of these different level sensors. In this article, we will discuss in detail, different types of indicators as well as their applications in different industries.

Applications of Level Gauges

To control the level of different bulk solids or liquids within an industry, a specific measurement needs to be maintained. This is where solid or liquid level indicator is used. These gauges have applications in a number of different industries. Here are some of them:

Ultrasonic Level Sensor

Ultrasonic sensors use high deficiency sound waves that make them highly efficient and quick at bringing out the results. They are mostly used in the measurement of bulk solids as well as highly viscous liquids. They are specially used for measurement in aqueous, corrosive and organic liquids. Since these indicators require electronic signals to work, they are considered as one of the most intelligent units currently being used in the industry, and are famous for their reliability.

Optical Interface Level Sensor

Optical interface sensors are famous for point level detection and continuous monitoring of bulk or suspended solids as well as liquids even in atmosphere which is steamy or dusty. They are capable of penetrating through the layers of vapors, unlike a number of other indicators and gauges currently in use.

Capacitance Level Sensor

Capacitance sensors are famous for excelling in sensing a variety of different liquids and solids. They are also electronic gadgets and are capable of bringing quick and efficient results. They can measure slurries, aqueous & organic liquids and solids. Since they use radio frequency, they are referred to as the “RF” devices. However, they have a little drawback, and that is that they may have trouble measuring liquid level within high tanks.
